A Tacoma, Washington, man, accused of being involved in a dog-fighting operation, has lost his bid to reclaim 49 dogs who were seized last month by the authorities. As reported by Q13 News, 40-year-old Elmer James Givens Jr. went to court to fight for custody of his dogs, but a judge ruled against him on Thursday.

Givens’ dogs were seized in mid-December after the authorities responded to a tip from neighbors. Investigators who visited Givens’ Portland Avenue property found dozens of dogs crammed in filthy crates filled with urine and feces, and dog-fighting equipment.

Despite initial word that Givens was facing animal cruelty charges, none have officially been filed yet. But the lack of charges did not sway the judge to give the accused man his dogs back. Judge Jeanette Lineberry stated:

The court has serious concerns about them {the dogs} suffering future neglect or abuse.

Givens maintains his innocence.

The seized dogs are being held at Tacoma Humane. Find the prior article about this situation at this link.
