A protected seal pup, malnourished and apparently looking for help, came to shore at the Point Reyes National Seashore in northern California, and was attacked and killed by an off-leash dog.

A witness reported the dog attack on the Guadalupe fur seal to the Marine Mammal Center – a necropsy confirmed that the female pup died from the attack. According to NBC Bay Area – the dog was in an area of the park where canines are prohibited.

The underweight seal pup was likely lost and searching for food, reports the  SF Gate.

A park spokesperson told the news agency:

“For a dog walker who is walking their dog off leash in a closed area (no dogs) and the dog kills a protected species under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, this may result in additional civil penalties (on top of the Park Class B misdemeanor) up to $11,000 or criminal penalties up to $100,000 plus one year imprisonment.

The dog responsible for the fatal attack left with its owner

    Poor precious little treasure.

Whilst I love dogs, I absolutely hate owners who disobey the posted rules for dogs….. the stupidity of a few entitled POSs’ ruins so many wonderful things for the rest of us who DO obey the posted rules……

Find this POS, confiscate the dog (rehome to a responsible family) fine AND jail this POS (really throw the book at them)…….
