People who have received a parking ticket in Muncie, Indiana, have been given a unique payment option by the Muncie Police Department. The authorities want to help the local animal shelter so they are allowing parking violators to pay off their tickets in cat food or litter.

In a Tweet, the department explains:

Pay your parking tickets in cat food! Until Friday the 19th at 4 PM we are allowing folks to pay their parking tickets in cat food, kitten food, or kitty litter! Bring a donation in the amount of your ticket. The is overrun with cats and kittens. We want to help!

Muncie Animal Care & Services is currently overrun with cats and kittens – in fact, WTHR News reports that the shelter has over 350 felines in its care right now.

People who are unable to visit the shelter to drop off a donation can contact the police department for help. In true pay it forward fashion, the department will even send an officer to a donor’s home to pick up items for the shelter. Residents can call the Chief’s office at 317-747-4822, Ext. 4.
