Recently a huge mining corporation’s “pipe failure” resulted in a toxic substance being pumped into the sea. Not surprisingly, the toxic spill has resulted in a tremendous loss of life for the creatures who live in the surrounding waters. According to multiple sources, three thousand liters of sulfuric acid poured into the waters of the Sea of Cortés after a mechanical failure at a Grupo México site.

The untimely demise of a sea turtle was captured on video not long after the sulfuric acid spilled into the sea. The video shows the last moments of the turtle’s life on San Francisco beach in San Carlos, Mexico. According to a social media post by deputy Carlos Navarrete Aguirre, the dying turtle’s bloated body was pulled from the water. The words accompanying the post read:

This will not go unpunished we want and demand the cancellation of the concession to the toxic group of Germán Larrea Mota Velasco. The death of a sea turtle in the San Francisco beach of San Carlos, is the beginning of the environmental tragedy that caused Grupo Mexico, on Tuesday, July 9, when thousands of liters of sulfuric acid were spilled into the Sea of Cortez from its facilities. Apiguay in Guaymas, Sonora,

As reported by the Mazatlan Post, there is a tremendous loss of life at the entrance to the Bay of Guaymas and the port city of Empalme, which is where the acid dumped into the sea.
