Horseback riders in Jackson State Forest made a shocking discovery this week. Facebook user Davina Marie Liberty issued a public Facebook post about the ailing German shepherd who was either lost, or abandoned, in the Mendocino County woods.
Liberty writes:
Out horseback riding and found a lost dog found in Caspar, Jackson State forest. Was about two miles from the Scales, heading towards the parking area, so has been in the woods. Collar, no tag. Male. Wearing a medical cone, badly limping, bleeding, pus. Smells like death.
The dog was captured and taken the Mendocino Humane Society where it was revealed that he had a microchip showing that he is from Nevada. His name is Thunder and he is seven years of age. The dog’s microchip has not been updated since 2015 and the information is not current.
Thunder has been on his own for quite some time – the medical cone on his neck long enough to become embedded.
Liberty is hopeful that someone out there will recognize Thunder and come forward to claim him. He is receiving care at the humane society and is not currently available for adoption.
