A family, grieving the loss of a loved one, was recently gifted a miraculous visit by an uncharacteristically friendly cardinal. Earlier this week, Angela Abbott Patteson shared the special story on social media, explaining that her husband’s 97-year-old grandmother, Dorothy Booth, had recently passed away, but before she was gone, her loved ones had asked for her to send them a sign.
Patterson explained:
For the past few years my mother-in-law Debbie and her sister Jeanne have talked to Grandma and on several occasions asked her (when it was her time to leave this world) send them a sign once she was in heaven, and they specifically asked that a cardinal would be involved.
The incredible sign
The sign that the family hoped for came days ago – Patterson explained that a friendly bird visited them the day after Booth’s memorial service, as family members were playing her favorite card game, Canasta.
She wrote:
They heard something at the kitchen window and my father-in-law Brian went out to check. A cardinal was sitting there and he was able to bring it inside. For 10 min they held and pet it, then they decided to go outside to release it.
She expressed joy for the incredible encounter, saying “Our God is so faithful! 😭❤️🙌🏼”
Anyone who has ever lost a loved one knows what it is like to wait and hope for a sign from the person who has passed…to receive a gift like this is truly incredible.

That is incredible. I saw a cardinal shortly after my baby Belle passed away. He was in a tree off to the side of the trail and I would not have seen him if he hadn’t fluttered to get my attention. I thought that was cool but this is amazing.
Amazing, but not a surprise–i am sure many of us have had similar experiences!
Many prayers and blessings to this family! Grandma is still with you and always will be!
