An animal cruelty investigation is underway in Charleston County, South Carolina. A mother dog was found abandoned and emaciated along with her two puppies posted the Charleston Animal Society on their Facebook page in a press release. The organization is hoping to  to provide information  and educate the public that abandoning a pet is a crime.

The mother dog, a spaniel mix now dubbed Unique, weighed only 22 pounds when rescued; a dog of her breed and size should weigh at least 40 pounds.

“It’s sad that her puppies weighed more than she did. She is slowly recovering, and the puppies are doing just fine,” stated Charleston Animal Society Director of Anti-Cruelty and Outreach Aldwin Roman.

“These cases are a snapshot of the sad reality we are dealing with every day,” said Charleston Animal Society CEO Joe Elmore. “We want people to know that there is no excuse to allow the animals you’re responsible for to get into this condition. Our community has many resources where animal owners can turn for help.”

In addition to being so skinny, one could fit their hand around her spine. She will also be treated for heart worms.

And it’s not as if the Charleston Animal Society doesn’t reach out to the community to help people in dire need to keep their dogs and provide help and assistance. There is  an online Animal Resource Center at www.CharlestonAnimalSociety.org to help families with their pets. Through June, Charleston Animal Society offered help to 1,379 families in our community.

It is never right to abandon your pet. Animal cruelty and neglect charges are pending against the owner.

Here is one place that actually “helps’ people with their pets so they don’t have to give them up and still this poor girl and her puppies are left to fend for themselves! It sounds like they know who did this and I hope they punish them severely and make an example of them!

Make spay and neutering mandatory in this country until we can get a handle on the overpopulation of dogs and cats. It would be the most humane thing to do for the life of that animal. They would be able to live out their lives but no more animals to possibly have to euthanize until shelters are reduced to only a few.

Venting–want eye for an eye. Want starvation to near death of persons who treated this innocent with such disrespect, maybe hatred. Pray for adoption of this dying innocent.by a loving family please. When so much starvation occurs it is common for organs to start to shut down. If ever you see abuse /starvation you must report. Neighbors, friends, family —please keep a sharp eye and DO SOMETHING. Charleston A S seems to have done a good thing in saving dogs in the community with the services they provide. Lets hope it’s the truth.

Let’s hope the people are prosecuted and given a very stiff sentence. Yes spay and neuter mandatory! A lot of people feel that it’s easier to just abandon their animals instead of going to a food pantry for help for their animals. Some are too proud to do that. People need to be educated!

For me,whenever I see a starving emaciated dog I IMMEDIATELY get tears in my eyes that progresses to crying! Because starvation is a slow, torturous, painful existence that eventually leads to a slow, painful death. Recovery is slow going and some don’t recover, they die! So not only is my heart aching for Unique I’m filled with anger! I’m glad they are investigating but odds are they will never know who abandoned Unique. BEAUTIFUL,SWEET GIRL❤️I HOPE U MAKE A COMPLETE RECOVERY AND GET TO EXPERENCE TRUE LOVE AND KINDNESS FOR THE REST OF UR PRECIOUS LIFE❤️

I wish people would stop all this abandoning, neglect and cruelty. How can they live with themselves?! Disgusting. Get well dogs!

ANYONE who abandons an animal should be hogtied and dumped in the nearest landfill with the rest of the trash. Useless wastes of flesh and blood.
