In Taylor County, Texas, more than 50 dogs have been rescued from a property in the Caps community off Highway 277. The elderly woman surrendered the dogs to an animal rescue.
Concerned citizens had posted photos of the dogs living on the homeowner’s property on social media, saying they were worried about the large number.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, who has been “monitoring” the property amid multiple complaints from nearby concerned neighbors, the owner has needed help getting the situation under control. Kind people have been feeding and care for the dogs along with the woman, who has the best of intentions, however both her mental and physical health issues have precluded her abilities to care for such a large population of dogs and their puppies.

Volunteers have rescued several puppies from the property and have been helping as many as possible. One of their main objectives has been to get the dogs neutered and spayed in order to stop the population from increasing.

On Thursday, rescuers from HSNT (Humane Society of North Texas) arrived to remove the dogs and take them into their care.
There are also efforts underway to collect food to donate to the property owner.

The owner has requested to keep two of the dogs, which will be neutered by the animal shelter and then returned to the woman.
There is no ordinance in the County as to how many dogs a homeowner can have. This is not a criminal investigation, but helping neighbors and rescuers are making the difference for these dogs as well as the woman.
