Feisty 4-pound Maltese thrown from car and then bitten by dog captures hearts of social media as he makes miraculous recovery

At the Pasadena Humane, a four-pound rescued Maltese, now named Timmy, has been through so much. Just a little more than a week ago, a witness saw the dog being thrown from a car.

And as if that wasn’t serious enough, the terrified pup was then struck by another car before he was able to run into a nearby yard where he was then bitten by a dog. Fortunately, the Good Samaritan who witnessed this heartbreaking chain of injuries, scooped him up and rushed him to an emergency veterinarian where he was stabilized before being transported to the emergency veterinary hospital of the Pasadena Humane.

Sadly, Timmy had suffered a spinal injury and had not been able to move his back legs; for the first day in the hospital’s care he could not even urinate on his own. He also had multiple broken ribs, bruising on his skin and internal organs and a laceration on his side.

Over the next critical days, the veterinary team carefully changed his bandages that supported the little dog’s injured ribs, administered antibiotics for his bite wound, and provided pain medication to keep him comfortable.

Timmy was in rough shape, and his caretakers were not sure what the future would hold for him.

Days later, the feisty little guy began to improve. He was able to urinate on his own using pee pads in his kennel. He started to eat, and perhaps the cutest little show of feeling better, could be seen when he wagged his tiny tail whenever his favorite staff members approached.

And then …. (drum roll please) this little dog stood up on his four legs without support for the first time!

As his injuries continue to heal, his adorable personality gets bigger and bigger. He loves giving kisses to our staff during his exams and bandage changes. He’s even becoming a bit of a fashionista with his stylish hairdos (which, for practical purposes, help keep his long fur out of his eyes so he can see) and decorative bandages that bring happiness and light to a dog with such a tragic backstory.

This sweet little pup’s injuries were severe, and he still has many weeks of healing to go, but it’s incredible how different he looks today because of the critical care provided by the veterinary team.

Check this out:

Timmy continues to recover in the ICU, and his silly personality shines through more and more every day. Today, he was even playing with the veterinary staff during his bandage change.

Timmy is not available for adoption yet. He still has quite a bit of healing to do, but check back for updates.
