A coyote recovered in San Diego after having been rescued from a flooded field of debris late last week. He had a bucket stuck on his head.
The San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) Humane Law Enforcement officers were dispatched to the area last Monday after residents thought they had seen a dog floating along the flooded area with a bucket stuck on its head. After further investigation, officers determined the animal was a young coyote. The SDHS reached out to lifeguards to reach the coyote by boat because the rough terrain made a land rescue impossible.
Bahde Wildlife Center staff were able to successfully remove the bucket from the animal’s head. The male coyote was suffering from mild hypothermia, had cactus spines stuck in his fur, and wounds which needed treatment. He was administered fluids, and x-rays were taken to ensure the coyote’s chances for a healthy life when released back into the wild.
The next day, the coyote was transferred to Ramona Wildlife Center planned to release him back into the wild. On Friday, he San Diego Humane Society said the coyote was freed not far from where it was found days before in the flooded Tijuana River Valley.
