UPDATE: Navy sailor who wanted to rescue puppy left behind in Middle East welcomes her to Florida

United States Navy Sailor Joy recently completed her fourth overseas deployment, but left a very special friend behind; Koda, a pup she rescued and bonded with remained in the dangerous area and could be killed at anytime. When she returned to Fleming, Florida, one of her main priorities was to bring the puppy she rescued, home to the United States.

According to Paws of War, a New York based non profit organization, Sailor Joy reached out for help to save Koda. She wanted this special puppy to have a future – loved, and protected by her hero’s side.

And that’s what happened on Tuesday! Thanks to Paws of War, an organization that brings back dogs and cats that had been rescued overseas by American troops, Koda was able to be brought home to the U.S.

KODA AND I BONDED AS SOON WE MET. SHE WAS JUST TRYING TO SURVIVE AND MY HEART BROKE AT HOW TINY AND SCARED SHE WAS, SHE NEEDED SOMEONE TO CARE ABOUT HER AND I DID EVERYTHING I COULD TO LET HER KNOW SHE COULD TRUST ME.

There was no one left to take care of Koda, and the mission to bring the puppy home became even more important.

And when Koda arrived this week, Joy had not seen her canine companion since leaving the Middle East, Koda, although a bit shy and apprehensive still happily wagged her tail and ran towards Joy. It wasn’t long before the reunion of the two broke out into a heartwarming event of doggy kisses, playful biting and a whole lot of joyous affection we all love to see.

Sailor Joy selflessly served our country for 12 years – could not have made Koda’s American dream come true alone, but together – with your help, she is home and out of harm’s way through the War-Torn Pups and Cats program.
