In Roswell, New Mexico, a shelter dog tagged to be rescued by an out of state animal rescue organization was mistakenly euthanized by Roswell Animal Services. Giles, a two-year-old German shepherd mix, had been brought into the shelter with a pregnant dog, Gillian, who was about to birth three puppies.

According to Friends of Roswell Animals, Giles had been tagged to be euthanized, but the non-profit group worked with Noah Center in Washington to save Giles, Gillian and her three puppies.

so we had already worked and arranged a special flight to Washington in the 9th of August,

Tragically, something went awry, and even though Giles had been tagged for rescue, the City of Roswell Animal Services had issues that day which led to the senseless death of the dog who was soon to have been on his way to a new life.

The shelter has since apologized and has promised to reinforce better communication between the shelter and thee rescue groups. Sadly, it was too late for Giles. The Friends of Roswell Animals rescue approximately 1,500 a year from the shelter.

Rest in peace Giles – you were so close but once again, humans messed up.

  1. I am disgusted with the cavalier attitude from the shelter. An apology is NOT a sufficient response for killing an innocent animal. Termination of the pos who messed up and killed this innocent dog is warranted. I hope tgere is justice for Giles. He deserves it because his life was stolen from him.

Giles, I know that you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group. RIP amongst loving friends.
