A small dog from Los Angeles had a special bond with a very dear woman who recently died. On his first visit to the cemetery after the death of the woman, this little guy found the woman’s grave without ever having been shown where the woman had been buried.

In a one-minute clip on TikTok by Sorayalikemariah shared on Thursday, the dog can be seen running in the graveyard continually looking back at his owner making sure she was following him.

“My mom passed away recently and they had such a special bond. This is his first time visiting her and I let him roam free asking ‘where’s granma?’ they would always play this game. She would hide in the park and call out his name. He kept hearing someone calling him (nobody was in sight) and wanted me to follow him. Her tombstone isn’t ready yet so it’s just grass, and there’s no way he can see where she is (I know exactly where it is) But he still hears someone calling him and keeps going towards it, making sure I’m following him.”

The dog led the woman to the exact spot where her mom had been buried, and the video ends with the dog rolling all around the area. Somehow, the dog knew “granma” was there.

“He was so excited but only jumped over her, never on her. He knew she was there. Love you Mom.”

It has been estimated that dogs can smell anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 times better than people. How far a dog smells depends on conditions such as wind and the type of scent. Bloodhounds have been known to pick up a human scent over 12 miles away.

One of the reasons dogs have better smelling abilities has to do with the number of scent receptors they have. For every one olfactory receptor a human has, dogs have about 50. And not only do dogs recognize and remember the scent of their humans, that particular “whiff” brings out more enthusiasm than any other smell.

Is it any surprise this little dog found the person who he had a “special bond”?

  1. Moms little dog Fred passed away 6 months before she passed. I was glad when he passed first because I had while she was in the hospital for 5 days and he refused to eat, even though it was his food. I was so worried he would starve to death missing mom. I got her another little dog who’s momma had just passed away and 3 weeks later my mom passed and they didn’t have time to bond. Every now and then I look at Sadie and I know she’s thinking of her first mom Shirley because she’s cuddling one of her toys she brought with her. They form bonds with people they love.
Every year elephants come home on the day their rescuer died. And they still do it every year on the day of his death. They remember and mourn just like us.
