At the West Fargo Police Department, K-9 Disco took his last ride on August 24, 2023 after years of loyalty. It was one final ride with his partner and best friend, Assistant Chief Pete Nielsen.

That day was a perfect time to spend together; the two visited their favorite places, reminisced about their more than 1,000 deployments, and then flashed the police lights just one more time in honor of this amazing canine hero.

K-9 Disco retired in 2018 after having served seven years with Assistant Chief Nielsen, who had been instrumental organizing the K-9 unit at the West Fargo Police Department. No one could have been prouder of K-9 Officer Disco’s achievements as he assisted with felony arrests, seized millions of dollars of illegal drugs, tracked missing people and had the respect and love of his fellow human officers.

Disco recently celebrated his 14th birthday, and he will be terribly missed.

In his retirement, Disco spent his days burying rocks in the snow, for us to find & have to pick up in the spring. Running around his backyard on cool summer nights w/ the rest of the dogs. & eventually decided he no longer felt the need to listen to what anyone had to tell him (rightfully so). He was full of spunk, wit, personality, & joy, even until his last moments today. Until his last moments, he had his eyes on my dad, making sure my dad was safe & everything was ok.
