In Oviedo, Florida, a couple had been walking their dog at Riverside Park alongside the Little Econ River when a 12-foot long alligator quietly and quickly slid out of the water and snatched the couple’s dog.

According to KiroNews, the man immediately went after the gator in order to rescue his dog and jumped on the back of it. Although the actual ordeal wasn’t witnessed by the staff at the park, the dog was saved.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission authorized the capture and humane euthanasia of the gator. It measured 12-feet, six-inches in length. The area is known for alligators swimming in the nearby bodies of water, and pet owners are discouraged from walking their pets anywhere near the water.

The dog is reported to be recovering at a local veterinarian hospital.

Would you jump on the back of an alligator to save your dog? That was one courageous man and one very lucky dog; no good news however for the gator.
