Leave a silver Labrador retriever home alone, and be prepared for the consequences. That’s what a Frisco, Texas family learned after leaving their dog, Twitch alone on Christmas Day to have dinner with their relatives.

It seems that three-year-old Twitch smelled those awesome cookies on top of the counter with her incredible sense of smell and made her way to the kitchen where the cookies were located – next to the gas range when she accidentally turned the stove on. Flames quickly spread in the kitchen.

Morgan Black, the dog’s owner, was alerted that her fire alarm had been activated, and she was able to see the flames via her surveillance system on her phone. According to Fox4News, Black immediately called her neighbor to be sure that Twitch was safely taken out of the home. The neighbor tossed water on the flames to help extinguish the fire until the fire department arrived. The family’s other dog – Asher, a ten-year-old boxer was also in the house and unharmed.

The house sustained considerable damage, and the first floor was gutted while the rest of the home suffered smoke damage. The family will be living in a rental for the next six months while renovations are underway.

No doubt Morgan was very upset at what happened, but she said she was never mad at Twitch.

Oh Twitch! (Just glad there were no injuries)
