In Salt Lake City, a family from Idaho survived an attack while snowmobiling in the Palisades, east of Idaho Falls. The family had been heading towards the hot springs when a moose stepped out onto the trail.

According to Ksltv, both the moose and the snowmobilers were all in difficult positions; the snow having been four feet deep. Jeremiah Bigelow told the scary story on his Facebook page.

We were headed to some hot springs and my brother got ahead of us and a moose stepped onto the trail.

And then it got intense.

She drops her head and just charges right at us. And I said, ‘Oh shoot!’ And I couldn’t do anything, and I had my boy right behind me, and it stopped about 20 feet from us and just did a false charge.

The moose turned around to Jeremiah’s brother, who had been trying to get the moose’s attention. His brother stood up on his sled trying to make himself look larger, but that approach wasn’t working. Instead, he quickly sat down on the sled, hit the gas to get going, but oh no – the machine died.

And now the moose was starting to charge because now the animal was really angry and Jeremiah’s brother only had moments to react.

He looks back over his shoulder for just a second and realizes it’s right there and jumps off, and as he jumps off, it hits the snow machine right on.

And then moments later Jeremiah’s brother and the moose are face to face again. For a moment the moose had fallen to the ground after that all out attack, and Jeremiah’s brother got back on the sled and the two have quite a standoff. For whatever reason, the moose, uninjured and apparently unfazed by the rather raucous attack, turned around and headed back down the trail.

The brothers were not as quick to have shaken off the dangerous encounter.

It could have killed him. The amount of weight that came down on those handlebars, it pushed the handle bars all the way forward, and so it would have been pretty catastrophic.

The family did see the moose later that day, and it was walking just fine.
