A young German shepherd is dead because his owner left him inside of a parked car for at least 35 minutes when the outdoor temperature was 89 degrees in Beaverton, Oregon. The Beaverton Police Department issued a news release identifying Calvin Jordan as the man who left his dog, Gazer, inside of a car on July 30.

According to the news release, Jordan did not even both cracking the windows of his vehicle, and by the time police were notified of the situation, Gazer was “in clear medical distress.” The release states:

Once Officers were able to remove Gazer from the vehicle, with help from neighbors, they attempted to cool him. Officers learned Gazer had been in the vehicle for at least 35 minutes. Gazer remained in medical distress and was transported by Beaverton Police to a nearby veterinary hospital.

Gazer’s condition was so poor that the decision was made to humanely euthanize him. Jordan is charged with Animal Abuse in First Degree and was lodged at the Washington County Jail.
