A blind woman is mourning the unexpected loss of her three-year-old guide dog, Milton, who perished inside a van after a trainer for the Guide Dog Foundation forgot about him on July 22. According to the New York Post, the Labrador retriever was left inside of the parked vehicle from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on a day when the temperature climbed into the 90s.
Milton was a companion and guide for Michelle Krupa, who had waited 15 years for a match. Her husband, Tom, took to social media after Milton died, describing the devastating impact of the beloved dog’s death:
our dog, and I have use that term loosely because he was more than a guide dog, he was a part of our family. He was Michelle’s outlet to the outside world, and my pet. He gave Michelle the ability to go out without reservation, and have confidence both in herself and in the world that he was protecting her. Now he’s gone, and although it was a tragic accident, she again faces the world and alone.
He added:
Milton, I may not have told you often enough, but I and we love you. Rest In Peace my good boy, someday we’ll see you again. I just hope that when you’re in heaven, you can be everything you were to us….. and know we miss you and love you so much!
According to the foundation, Milton was supposed to be taken on a walk on July 22 but plans changed along the way and he was somehow forgotten. The deadly incident is being chalked up to a terrible accident and the organization is taking steps to ensure that it will never happen again.
As reported by CBS News, Milton was with the foundation to learn new skills to better assist Michelle.

OMG stupid stupid people! HOW do people forget they have a dog they picked up? 5 1/2 hours they forgot him? They cooked this poor dog! No excuse! It costs about $15,000 to train a dog for a blind person. When I young I wasn’t always the most responsible person but I never left my kids or dogs to cook in car.
