On Friday, the Humane Society of Louisiana held a press conference about a missing dog, who was inside a car that was stolen on Thursday. The dog, named Nila, was in a 2019 Nissan Versa that was parked outside of a Winn Dixie grocery store. An opportunistic thief (or perhaps more than one) hopped in the Nissan and drove away with Nila inside.

Nila’s owner, Kevin Brinkman, had gone inside to grab a few items, leaving the car running for Nila’s comfort. Jeff Dorson, with the Humane Society, said:

Using poor judgment, however, Kevin left his beloved emotional support animal, Nila, in the backseat with the car running, thinking he’d only be gone a few minutes. Returning to the lot less than 10 minutes later, Kevin realized that someone had stolen his car (2019 Grey Nissan Versa) and his beloved Nila. Neither the car nor Nila have been recovered.

Adding:

Police informed Kevin that his car was last seen in St. Charles parish, and one of his credit cards was recently used (and declined) in Florida.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Humane Society at 1-888-6-HUMANE. HSLA is offering a $500 reward for the safe return of Nila.
