A revealing report shows that Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King used $40,000 in donor funds to buy himself a dog for “protection.” According to multiple sources, the funds came from donations to the California-based organization, Grassroots Law, and they were paid to Potrero Performance Dogs for a dog named Marz.

On social media posts (which have since been deleted), King stated that the dog was purchased for protection from “white supremacists.” And he complained that he could not use a gun:

Before you talk about how I should defend myself with guns, New York City won’t even allow me to have a gun. New Jersey doesn’t have stand your ground laws and hardly allows you to even own guns.”

King did not end up keeping Marz – returning the dog to the breeder because it had “too much energy to be a family dog” reports the New York Post.

King’s use of the donated funds is apparently legal, though it does raise some concerns. Scott Walter, the president of Capital Research Center, tells Newsmax:

This luxury dog expense may not be illegal for a PAC, but it shows little respect for King’s donors.
