An investigation into an animal attack at the location of the 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida is ongoing. The Oakland Park site, located at the 300 block of E. Commonwealth Boulevard has been the scene of deputies and fire rescue workers responding to a call about an animal bite.

According to NbcNews, video showed investigators at the scene; the area is closed off with yellow crime scene tape, however no one has commented as to what animal attacked the woman or if they were associated with the rescue group. The incident, which occurred about 11:00 a.m. left one woman dead and another woman hospitalized.

The two women worked for the rescue organization. When one of the women had been attacked by an aggressive, large mixed breed dog, the second woman came to her aid, however the first woman had already been seriously injured. The dog was captured and taken to animal control where Broward Animal Control has stated the dog has been euthanized.

The identities of the women have not been released. The grievously injured woman was transported as a trauma alert, but died at the hospital. The second woman had minor injuries, was treated and released.

No other information has been released at this time.
