On July 26, a dog was left to suffer in agony on a balcony during a heatwave in western Washington. By the time that the authorities were alerted to the cruel situation, it was too late. The Sedro-Wooley Police Department issued a release about the situation, explaining:

On 07-26-22 SWPD Code Enforcement Officer received a report of a dog left out on a balcony with no shade or water. CEO arrived to check on the dog and received further information from neighbors, also concerned.
Upon making contact at the residence the dog was located on the balcony in severe distress.

Responding officers attempted “life-saving procedures” for the dog on scene, but the damage from the heat was done. The dog died from heat exposure despite being rushed to an emergency veterinarian for care. Someone close to the situation commented on the police department’s social media post, writing:

This was so horrible to watch!! Absolutely gut-wrenching. Suffering. SO sad. Thank you to code enforcement officer, she tried her best to save him

Others commenting on the Facebook post have expressed anger and dismay that anyone would be stupid enough to leave their dog on a hot balcony during this week’s heatwave.

The temperature on Tuesday climbed into the mid to upper 90s and the surface of the balcony that the dog was standing on was even hotter. The police said:

Officers used an infrared thermometer which showed the temperature of the surface of the balcony at 131F. Officers served a search warrant at the residence and retrieved evidence from the scene.

The person responsible for the dog was arrested for Animal Cruelty 1st Degree and booked into the Skagit County Jail. The identity of the person arrested has not yet been publicly released.

Unfortunately, all of the education and public service announcements in the world cannot change ignorance and stupidity. Please look out for pets in your neighborhood and DO SOMETHING if you see an animal suffering because of their brainless owner.
