A shocking lack of humanity was captured on video after an old alligator, estimated to be upwards of 100 years of age, was treated like a photo prop in Hilton Head, South Carolina. According to WJCL News, the 12 foot long alligator was captured on Tuesday behind Legendary Golf, where he was presumably searching for food.
After the gator was caught and the snout and legs were tightly bound, a crowd of eager onlookers decided that it was their chance to pose for photos, with the soon-to-be-killed animal as their own personal “photo op.” Video shows people sitting on the alligator’s back, pulling his head back and laughing.
According to the news agency, the alligator was captured by Critter Management with a legal permit. Though it is illegal to harass alligators under South Carolina law, it does not appear that there will be charges forthcoming to the people who manhandled the gator before he was killed.
