An eastern Iowa shelter dog waited 900 very long days for a home of his own. The dog, named Leo, was saved by Dogs Forever in Cedar Rapids. Back in 2018, a year after taking the former death-row dog in, the rescue agency tried to find Leo a home by sharing some information about his personality:

Leo loves to Trick AND Treat! 🍭🎃

Leo has been at Dogs Forever for over a year and is patiently waiting for his forever home 🏡 He would do best in a home as an only fur child with older kids. A fenced-in backyard would be ideal as this big boy loves to run around and chase tennis balls. 🎾

But months came and went without someone stepping in to offer Leo a home…until now. As reported by KCRG News, a man named David Evens met Leo this past Christmas. Evans set out to prepare his home and yard for the sometimes “difficult” pooch, and even worked with a trainer for months to ensure that all would go well.

Evens tells the news agency that finding Leo came at just the right time,

I went through a breakup and needed an animal to spend time with,” he said. “No loneliness now.”
