An Idaho man has been arrested and charged for allegedly throwing a caged dog into a fire and making threats to a woman and her children. As reported by the Idaho State Journal, 29-year-old Nyles Reylito Andres is identified as the man who hurled a large, brown dog into a fire on Monday.
In an affidavit, a Canyon County sheriff’s deputy stated:
“I could see the dog being burnt by the fire. As I got closer, (Andres) saw me and kicked the dog off the fire.”
Andres allegedly proceeded to chase after the dog with a hatchet and hunting knife after releasing the canine from the cage. The man dropped his weapons after the deputy ordered him to. According to the officer, Andres said that he was at the residence to confront a woman, who was not at home. The deputy observed burning clothing on the fire, and saw burns on the dog’s legs and lower body.
Three children, ages 16, 5 and 4, had barricaded themselves inside of the home – they claim that Andres threatened to kill them and their mother. Andres is facing multiple charges, including burglary, malicious injury to property, third-degree arson, witness intimidation and three counts of aggravated assault, in addition to misdemeanor animal cruelty.
The dog was transported to a veterinary hospital for care.
