A woman in Gainesville, Florida, has been arrested after the discovery of a dead dog locked in a cage of her insect-infested home. As reported CBS 4 News, 36-year-old Jacqueline Williams was arrested and charged after officers responded to her apartment with a search warrant and found a deceased dog in a locked crate, and another dog, still alive, in a separate crate.

According to the news agency, Williams’ apart was infested with insects and the surviving dog had no access to water or food, and was surrounded by feces and urine. Neighbors told the authorities that a foul odor had been emanating from the apartment for about two weeks.

Williams claims that the dog died five days before from a snake bite. She is facing a felony charge of animal cruelty.
