A York City man is accused of dragging and punching a small puppy. As reported by the York Dispatch, the puppy abuser is identified as 29-year-old Anthony Castro. According to the news agency, despite a police officer observing Castro dragging a “very small pit bull puppy” for approximately 30 yards, and repeatedly punching the pup in the ribs, an arrest was not made.

York City Police Officer Tyler Benton documented what he witnessed, writing in court documents that Castro:

“grabbed the puppy by the neck with one hand and then with a closed fist, punched the puppy in the rib area. I witnessed the puppy then shoot back between the defendant’s legs roughly a foot from how much power the defendant used to strike the puppy with.”

The puppy was not removed from Castro’s custody and the man remains free. An animal cruelty charge has been filed against him. No word on the puppy’s injuries, if any.
