Bear, lovingly referred to as “Goodest Bear” by his adoring owner, Kerrie Rank, has passed away. Bear became a darling of the media just over two years ago after he was freed from the chain which had tethered him outside for 15 very long years.

He lived to an impressive 17 years of age, but it wasn’t long enough for the woman who became his owner after he finally tasted sweet freedom.

Bear’s person shared the devastating news on Instagram one day ago…

My life will never be the same. The word heartbroken does not even come close to the pain I feel. Rest In Peace, Goodest Bear. 17 years old. You lived a much longer life than anyone ever imagined you would or could. Especially for a dog your size. But you were the strongest boy. Running at 16; even with bad arthritis. I was blessed to be your mommy for exactly two years, four months and one day. Thank you, God, for giving me this beautiful fur baby to love and care for. Please take the best care of him in doggy heaven. ❤️❤️🌈🐾💔 💔

Bear was set free from his chain in Suffolk County, New York, by the Guardians of Rescue – in short order, the senior dog started to experience things that he had previously been denied. Things like a soft bed, a bath, walks on the beach, and a tasty Starbucks Puppuccino.

When Bear was adopted by Kerrie, he truly experienced life as a beloved companion – on his Bear the Dog Unchained Instagram account, the full extent of his wonderful life was shared with account followers.

Bear’s sad past was wiped away by love – and he will be missed by everyone who came to know him.

Rest easy Goodest Bear.
