A Texas man is mourning the loss of his eight-week-old puppy, “Sue,” who he found hanging from a tree in his yard on Monday. According to KHOU News, 18-year-old Cole Gilmore made the heartbreaking discovery after returning home from work.

Gilmore told the news agency that his dogs had all been taken off of their chains and were running free in his yard…the puppy, a Catahoula-Black Mouth Curr mix, was hanging in a tree from a nylon string. Gilmore contacted the authorities in Lampasas, but he claims that the deputy told him a police report filing was not necessary.

Lampasas County Sheriff Jess Ramos has stated that the case will be investigated, “as far as we can take it.” Sheriff Ramos claims that Gilmore did not want to file a police report.

The puppy’s owner is offering a reward for information leading to whoever is responsible for the heinous act of animal cruelty.

Something doesn’t make sense. Why wouldn’t the owner want to file a complaint and police say he didn’t want to. Missing pieces of this story.

I so agree Adrienne this whole thing sounds pretty fishy having the dogs outside on a chain in the back yard and not inside doesn’t want to file a police report something is not making any sense at all very suspicious

The police said that filing was not necessary which means they will do NOTHING ABOUT IT. Its not the owners fault that some LOW LIFE POS goes into his yard and kills his pet. You should be more sympathetic about his loss than trying to blame him for thinking about his dog. He wasn’t locked up in a crate all day while he was out at work.

Who would have been in your yard? Have a jealous roomate? Ask neighbors if they have cameras that were taping to see what came and went in the neighborhood. Reward is smart. Please, no more dogs until this is solved. RIP pup.

What is wrong with people. All his dogs were on chains in his yard? Someone took them all off their chains and they were running free. The puppy was hanged in a tree? Who the hell leaves dogs chained in their yard – especially when they aren’t home, and ESPECIALLY a little puppy? This man should be hanged! RIP, sweet pup. I do hope they find who did this to you, but your monster of an owner didn’t care enough about you either. I’m sorry you were failed by humans on so many levels.

Some heartless SOB took an 8 week old pup and hung it from a tree, how cruel and heartless. It sounds like someone has a vendetta against this man and his dogs. I hope they get to the bottom of this. I have to say though, an 8 week old pup should have been in the house and not “chained” in the yard.

No doubt whoever killed this puppy is truly demented and should not be walking the streets. However, an eight week old puppy should be in the home and not left outside chained. Nonetheless, there’s probably more to this story.

#1-the dogs should never have been out in the yard with no one to watch over them – #2-I agree there is something very suspicious about this story – and #3-authorities in Texas will do NOTHING to investigate this at all – Texas is comparable to China with their lack of animal welfare.

This is so sad 😢 and heartbreaking. I can’t understand how someone could ever hurt a defenseless animal. Why do they keep showing or telling these heartbreaking stories. about animal abuse?
