A young puppy, apparently abandoned with the trash, was rescued by heroes in Oroville, California. The shepherd mix puppy was discovered after a Recology employee heard cries coming from the mounds of trash and took the time to investigate, reported KRCR TV.
“As I am walking through the building I hear whining, whimpering,” said Recology employee, Will Smith, “I was trying to maneuver my way because it was dark.” Smith explained that he would have headed directly to his tractor to move the piles of trash if the lights had been on…it was sheer luck that he didn’t start up the heavy machinery and begin moving garbage.
Smith had to dig for a half hour before he got to the trapped puppy – he said that she was quiet and content after being rescued. Smith told the news station, “She stopped yelling. She laid her head on my chest. She was just happy.”
The pup was infested with fleas – so Smith bought flea shampoo and gave her a bath. The Recology general manager even paid for the pup to go to a veterinarian for an exam.
Another employee, Ryan Matousek, decided to adopt the puppy (now named Sierra) for his mom. Little Sierra went from unwanted and abandoned to loved. Great work!
