Have you ever heard of a Xoloitzcuintli (pronounced show-low-eats-QUEENT-lee), or commonly referred to as a Xolo? The breed is an ancient, rare Mexican hairless dog that dates back more than 3,000 years to the Aztecs; referred to at the time as “dog of the gods.”
Now who would have ever thought to spot two of these rare dogs running around a South Los Angeles neighborhood searching for food and more than likely – searching for their families who no doubt abandoned them?
These dogs are loyal, intelligent and calm companions and are known to have three sizes – toy, miniature and standard. They occur to be both hairless and coated.

Meet Pitzen.
He was rescued last week by Suzette Hall, founder of the nonprofit animal rescue Logan’s Legacy 29, after receiving a message asking for help. The female, believed to have been Pitzen’s sister, had been picked up by animal control. From reports and previous videos, it appeared the two dogs had been extremely bonded.

The shelter, SEACCA, claims there is already a waiting list for the dog; most likely because of her rare breed.
I sit and think about all the pit bulls, Chihuahuas, and so many other dogs who don’t have an adoption waiting list… they have a euthanasia list. That reality is so upsetting.
(SEAACA spays and neuters them before they go home or sets an appointment for the adopted animal to be altered at a future date.)
Hall tried to rescue the female from the shelter, but public adoption requests always comes first.

In the meantime, this sweet boy is safe. He is loved. Everyone at the vet’s office is completely in love with him. His personality is just beautiful.
Most importantly, he’s not out there trying to survive all by himself anymore.
