The City of Los Angeles Department of Animal Services estimates anywhere from 25,000 to 44,000 stray dogs roaming the streets of Los Angeles at any time.
If only, we could save all of them. If only pet owners would take responsibility for their pets. If only people spayed and neutered their pets.
Many thanks to all rescuers doing the best jobs they can afford to do.

Just this week, Suzette Hall, founder of the nonprofit animal rescue Logan’s Legacy 29, received a message asking for help. A family had recently purchased a home they had planned to completely refurbish. They had installed a Ring camera inside, and every so often, they would receive motion alerts. When they checked, they didn’t see anyone or anything.

A few nights later at 3:00 a.m., the Ring camera captured two small images. They were two tiny dogs inside of the vacant house. They had made themselves at home and could clearly be seen playing in the wall insulation that had already crumbled to the floor. Most likely, it was the only soft place they found where they could sleep.

The new owners were shocked and the next morning drove to their new home, and there they were! The two dogs were fast asleep; they were curled up together in the foam insulation. The moment they saw the people, they panicked and ran for their lives, disappearing into the debris strewn all over the floors of the vacant house.
Upon Suzette’s arrival, she saw both of the dogs run away again.
This story just broke my heart… two little babies trying to survive in an empty, destroyed house. We could see they had even been chewing on boxes that were lying around, probably just trying to find something to eat.
The house was full of debris everywhere. Both dogs had rushed to the same corner so as not to be caught. One of them completely disappeared, but the tiny white dog ran deep underneath an old air-conditioning unit. Suzette was terrified the unit might fall and crush the dog.

With everything I had in me, I started pulling on that unit. It was so heavy. I pulled and pulled and pulled with all my strength until it moved just enough. My heart was pounding. I was breathing so hard.
Finally, she was able to reach underneath and get a slip lead on him. She pulled him to safety. Then it was time to find his friend who was hiding somewhere in the house. They searched under all the debris, but she had disappeared.
Suzette set one of her humane traps using all kinds of delicious foods as bait. She hoped and she prayed.

Whenever the rescuers would leave, the camera showed the dog returning to the spot where the other dog had been, but when the camera stopped working, all bets were off. No one knew what was happening inside of the home.
The next morning, Suzette returned, and there she was; safe in the trap.

Two little dogs who had been surviving inside a vacant house, sleeping in crumbled wall insulation, eating whatever they could find, were only discovered by chance because their tiny little bodies set off a Ring camera.
No one knows how long they had been there.
They will never have to survive like that again.
These two little angels are safe forever now.
