Tiny wiener dog hurled from car in terrible crash miraculously found alive by strangers 7 days later

It had been one week later, when a loveable wiener dog that had been thrown from a car during a horrible crash, was found alive by strangers in the desolate wilderness of Wyoming.

According to the Facebook page for Amanda Lohr, it had been on October 23 when she and her boyfriend had set out to visit friends in Portland, Oregon. Accompanying the couple had been their cat named Newt and their dachshund named Chewie.

Hours into the trip, an 18-wheeler semi truck that had attempted to pass Amanda’s vehicle misjudged the distance and slammed into the car with such force, the 2005 Buick Century rolled over three times. The truck left the scene. Amanda had been lucky and only suffered minor injuries, but her boyfriend spent over a week recovering from neck injuries.

Sadly, the family cat suffered terrible injuries and did not survive, but where was seven-year-old Chewie? Officers were unable to locate Chewie and assumed he had crawled away and died or had been hit by another vehicle on the highway.

The couple lost everything in the crash, and have been struggling to get back on their feet.

And then came a surprise! Just last Monday, Lohr received a phone call from a complete stranger to tell her Chewie had been found and was very much alive. It had been Kenny Coomes, a FedEx long haul truck driver who had been traveling between Salt Lake City and Scottsbluff, Nebraska, when he spotted Chewie.

Coomes recognized Chewie and although he attempted to capture the pint sized pooch, had been quite unsuccessful; that is until Scott and Kodi Allred had been driving along the same route when they spotted Chewie running close to the Interstate. Chewie was so frightened and wanted no part of anyone capturing him, but the couple didn’t give up and were finally able to slip a collar and leash over the pup’s neck.

We found this sweet little weiner dog on interstate 80 in the middle of nowhere near Elk Mountain Wyoming. We thought he was abandoned, but after having him scanned for a chip by Laramie Humane Society, we found out he has a pretty miraculous story.

It turns out his momma, Amanda was in a bad accident there on I80 near Elk Mountain as she was driving from Indiana to Oregon.

Chewie had not been wearing a dog tag, but the couple brought him to the Laramie Humane Society where his microchip tracked him back to Lohr at her home in Kokomo, Indiana.

…we thought he was dead because a teen came and told us he hit a dog near our accident site and the cops wouldn’t let us go check if it was him or not.

Chewie found alive was the miracle Amanda needed in her life. Heroes don’t always wear capes.
