In Jefferson County, Colorado, a woman stated she was bitten by a Great Dane in the face in a Home Depot store after asking the dog owner if she could pet the dog. The owner asked the woman if she would first give the dog, in training, a treat. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on March 31 at the Evergreen location of the Home Depot.

One report stated, as the woman gave the dog a treat, the dog bit her in the face. Home Depot employees rushed to the woman to render first aid; the woman with the dog then exited the store. It is not known if the victim asked the dog owner to stay.

Authorities were able to identify the women accompanying the dog after posting several photos onto social media. The names of the dog owners have not been made public, and according to a press release by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the victim sustained “serious injuries and requires facial surgery as a result of the bite.”

The dog is currently being quarantined at the owners’ home for 10 days to ensure the dog is not exhibiting any symptoms of rabies. The owners stated the dog is up-to-date on all of its vaccinations.

According to Fox News, new details about the incident have since been reported. Medical records have not yet been released to determine the extent and type of injuries the woman suffered, as required by Jefferson County Animal Control investigators before levying any charges against the owners. Conflicting reports have stated the dog’s owner and a trainer had been in the store when the woman was injured, however the owner claims the dog did not bite the victim, but headbutted her.

It’s unclear right now, whether it was a headbutt, basically or a bite. We’re still waiting for more reports from the doctor’s office.
