Cape Elizabeth Police Department received a call early on Tuesday morning from a Public Works employee who had been out plowing one of the neighborhoods. The employee told police he had spotted a seal “scurrying through the neighborhood.”

According to the Facebook post from the police department, an officer responded and found the seal in the middle of the roadway. He captured the seal and brought it back to Fort Williams Park where the quite adorable critter was released back into the ocean.

And so one would think? It seems this particular seal may have “possibly followed the delicious scent” of a local doughnut shop baking its morning fare. This particular seal was committed to exploring the area, or possibly stopping for breakfast?

Then came the second call and another officer responded, and this time with the help of a local resident they captured that same seal and once again brought him back to Fort Williams Park and released him back into the ocean.

But of course this isn’t the end of the story….

Approximately an hour later, the seal was once again found exploring Fort Williams Park. The officer and several citizens were able to capture the seal and bring it back down to the beach where it was released into the ocean. This time, the seal swam off in search of bigger and better adventures. Marine Mammals of Maine was contacted and will be following up

In an update on Wednesday morning, the Marine Mammals of Maine were called to rescue the seal later in the day. He is now in the care of the rehabilitation facility.

His exam indicated the young gray seal had recently been weaned from his mom and unfortunately had been having a tough time on his own. He is underweight and will be receiving the necessary nutrition and care until he is ready for release. He is the second seal from Cape Elizabeth currently at our center.

After all his adventures over the last 24 hours, he has spent the entire day sleeping and suckling his flippers.

This little traveler will require extensive support to get him back to the wild again, but we are committed to getting him home. To join his community of supporters visit our Amazon wish list to send much-needed items directly to our hospital, or donate to our Facebook fundraiser that will help feed him, and our other current patients. Our goal is $5,000 to cover the cost of our upcoming fish order. Any help is much appreciated, by our team and our patients!
