K9 Officer Dexter retiring from active duty at 16-years-old goes viral on social media

In Pennsboro, West Virginia, the Pennsboro Police Department had a tearful, but heartfelt sign-off this week as K-9 Officer Dexter retired at the age of 16. A video of the revered occasion went viral on social media. And we all cried “happy” tears.

Dexter and his handler, Chief Travis Snuffer, have served together for the past 12 years. Dexter has been at the Pennsboro Police Department for two years.

Thank you, k-9 Dexter for all your hard work and making sure your handler made it home safely every evening. Enjoy your retirement. You’ve earned it.

K-9 Dexter had been awarded a bronze medal in 2016 for a drug bust. The dog has always been ready to assist any of the police officers. Chief Snuffer promised Dexter would be having a wonderful retirement. And Dexter has definitely earned it!
