Volunteers and staff from the Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter located in Hazard, Kentucky had been searching for days for what is suspected to have been a coyote with a bucket stuck over her head. Unfortunately, the team had no luck finding or capturing her.
The shelter asked Knott County residents for help, and if the dog had been spotted for citizens to contact the authorities. It was feared the coyote would not have been able to survive much longer without being able to drink or eat.
Tragically, after days and hours of searching and trying to help the wild coyote, her lifeless body was found on Sunday afternoon. After nearly a week of having had her head stuck in the bucket, her life was snuffed away.
thank you to all the volunteers who spent their days looking for her and trying to save her. Thank you to a local rescue group for bringing her body to be disposed of properly and giving her some dignity and respect.
We want to remind everyone to properly dispose of your trash, do not leave garbage cans open or unsecured and don’t feed wildlife. Wild animals no doubt try to take the easy way when it comes to finding food, but this little one didn’t anticipate the grim and painful death she endured because someone left a jar with the smell of food at the bottom.
We are sorry we failed you. We can all do better to protect our wildlife.

Poor little girl. I am sorry for your horrible death. It was totally unnecessary. Your life mattered and had value. It’s tragic that humans failed so badly and endangered you (and others).
WE MUST DO 100% BETTER!
SO SORRY WE FAILED YOU, SWEET FURRY ANGEL!
MANY THANKS AND BLESSINGS TO ALL WHO TRIED THEIR BEST TO HELP!
