Trimming your dog’s nails? According to the American Kennel Club, nail trimming is an essential part of grooming your dog, and those nicely trimmed nails are a sign of a dog’s health and hygiene. If you’re one of those squeamish owners and afraid you might not be up to the task, there’s always a trip to the vet or to the groomer.

Now some dogs take this painless task as something to complain about, and the trick to overcoming the drama of nail trim time is to begin handling a puppy’s feet and nails when she’s young and adorable. Some puppies will sit calmly on your lap, others need to be placed on a table, and then a few might need to be restrained, because of d-r-a-m-a.

So let’s move on to the task at hand and meet an adorable Boston terrier, who couldn’t let this experience end with a cookie or a gentle scratch behind her ear. Not this pup!

In a video clip posted to Tiktok by user @drinkandknowthings Oscar, the Boston terrier dramatically drags her legs across the floor after having had her pedicure. It seems her human accidentally cut into one of her toenails, and the drama – oh let us count the ways while we all smile and giggle.

“After toenails have been clipped, acting like she can’t walk just to make you feel bad that you hurt one nail,” the caption read.

The hilarious video has garnered 709,000 views in just five days.

Here’s some hints on nail trimming; it’s not so bad. Just be patient and kind.

Day 1 – Allow puppy to sniff the nail clipper. Give her a treat and praise.

Day 2 – Touch the nail clipper on each paw. Give her a treat and praise.

Day 3 – Touch the clipper to each paw and squeeze the clipper so puppy hears the sound and/or feel the vibration. Don’t actually trim. Give her a treat and praise.

Day 4 – Touch the nail clipper to puppy’s feet again. Give her a treat and praise.

Day 5 – Trim just the tiniest tip of the puppy’s nail from one paw. Lavish her with lots of praise and treats.

Day 6 – Trim just the tiniest tip of two nails. Treats and praise please.

Day 7- Keep working your way to more nails and even if you pretend to be clipping, the puppy will get used to it and it will be no big deal.

Make sure you consult your vet for the proper clippers and the procedures. The above ideas are only suggestions.
