A woman in Rancho San Diego, California, claims that a couple living in an RV have her dog, Meelo, and they demanded money from her when she learned where he was. As reported by CBS 8 News, Rawan Alshammari’s year-and-a-half-old husky somehow got out of her apartment window on January 12, and now she can’t get him back.
Alshammari told the news agency that after three weeks of posting to social media, someone reached out to her and said that Meelo appeared to be living with a couple living in their RV that was parked at Clarendon and Second Streets in El Cajon.
Meelo’s owner tried to get help from the police, but they told her that it was not a situation that they could help with. She decided to take matters into her own hands and went to the RV herself last weekend. She told CBS:
“I knocked on the door. I could hear my dog inside. I kept knocking the door no one opened the door.”
Her friend left one of the missing dog fliers outside of the RV the next day – hoping that the couple would reach out. And they did – but they demanded money for Meelo’s return.
Alshammari was willing to pay for his return, but she wanted photo proof that it was her dog. The couple changed their tune with her demand – telling her to just get another dog and letting her know that she would never see Meelo again. The news agency tried to get in contact with the cell number that Meelo’s owner had been texting, but nobody responded. Now the RV is gone and so is Meelo. Alshammari is heartbroken:
“He’s my child. I don’t care if people call me crazy. He’s my child. He’s my everything. I’m gonna do everything I can to get him back. I’m not gonna stop and give up on him knowing he’s out there.”
