In Clare County, Michigan, the local animal shelter continues their efforts to rescue a dog that became stranded on the small island in Hayes Township’s Cranberry Lake after she slipped her collar, ran away and jumped into a nearby canal.

According to Bob Dobson with Clare County Animal Control, the dog, named Zaria, has been on the island for 16 days. She is described as a brown and white Great Dane, and has been stranded on the island since August 17. Local Animal Control, Sheriff’s Department and many local residents have tried to bring Zaria to safety without success.

Each time officers tried to capture the dog she escaped.

Moore’s K9 Recovery has been working together to help trap the pooch and set up a plan with animal control. There are two traps on the island, and cameras have been set up to watch for Zaria as she gets near the traps. She has shown interest in the traps and also seems to be curious about the tracker dogs she has seen.

I have a vet lined up that will get to see her right away, and then I also have a foster lined up that knows the process of slow feedings.

The dog’s owners have since signed ownership of the dog to the Clare County Animal Shelter.

Zaria update on day 16:

Cranberry Lake Harrison MI

Zaria continues to build slow and steady progress with the traps, human scent and k9 trackers scent. She has already been to eat at the trap twice today. We have one k9 recovery specialist and 1 off duty animal control officer staying within minutes of the traps again tonight. I can’t say enough thanks to all our donors whether financial or food, we can’t do what we do without the community support.

We are asking if you are out on Cranberry Lake this weekend, please avoid the island and please do not put food out anywhere for Zaria. As this will only delay her being trapped quickly and safely. Please remember that the island is private property!!

Please keep Zaria in your prayer’s as she continues to build trust at the trap.
