A gruesome scene awaited the authorities that responded to a home in Kansas City, Missouri, this week. Officers went to the home of 35-year-old Tasha Haefs late Tuesday night and found her “singing loudly inside.” When they looked through a window of the home, they saw a child’s head on the floor.

As reported by the New York Post, the deceased boy was identified as six-year-old Karvel Stevens, Haef’s son. After entering the residence, the officers found Haef with blood on her legs and feet; she also had cuts on her hands and a puncture wound on her thigh. As reported by Fox News, the authorities found a decapitated dog and two knives in the basement of the home.

Tasha Haefs admitted to the killings, and told the authorities that she believed the “devil was trying to attack her.”

In a release, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said that the crime “takes our breath away.” Adding, “It’s difficult to imagine the grief for this boy’s family. For the child’s classmates. His friends. Neighbors. The first responders who went to this crime scene. I expect it leaves us not knowing what to do. We might look at our loved ones today and give some thanks to God or even say a prayer. Thank you, my child is safe today. But we want everyone’s children to be safe.”

Haef is charged with Murder in the First Degree of her six-year-old son and Armed Criminal Action.* She is being held in the Jackson County Detention Center and her bond request was “no bond.”

  1. The demons are alive and well in the world. People with mental issues should be recognized so children and pets may be rescued. Having schools closed had an impact on a drop in child abuse cases because often children will tell their classmates and teacher what’s happening at home. We must look for early signs of pet and child abuse.
