Just two weeks ago in Memphis, Tennessee, fast acting Good Samaritans saved the life of a dog intentionally set on fire in the Nutbush community near Chelsea and Graham. It was the worst sight neighbors had ever seen, but no one hesitated to help.
A surveillance video showed neighbors racing to the dog’s rescue – one person with a garden hose and another woman carrying a bucket of water from her pool. The video, even though it was very difficult to watch, showing people dousing the dog with water, went viral on social media. A reward of $16,000 had been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) who intentionally set the dog on fire.
According to 5News, on Monday evening, the Memphis Police Department responded to an urgent call where they were informed Quishon Brown had threatened an individual saying he was going to burn down the person’s home or whoever had given video to the police and media. The video surveillance showed a heavy set man in the backyard on Berkshire Avenue just 36 seconds before the dog now named Riona ran down the Hood Street on fire.
On Tuesday, the Tillman Task Force officers arrested Brown and transported him to the Tillman General Investigation Bureau and to jail. Brown now faces aggravated animal cruelty, arson and simple assault charges and transported to jail where he will now await prosecution.
Riona, is under the care of Tails of Hope Rescue, and she is currently being fostered by Bluff City Veterinary Specialists. She suffered fourth-degree burns to her face and left side, and first-degree burns to the other parts of her body.
The friendly dog is making a miraculous recovery. Riona isn’t ready to find a new home yet, but we will all be waiting and will be updating on her progress.
