On July 16, a K9 with Virginia’s Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office was choked by a man during a traffic stop. According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, a man driving a car that had a license plate matching a vehicle involved in a carjacking was pulled over.

The man refused to exit the vehicle and officers deployed K9 Bane to assist. The driver, identified as Kevin Spriggs, 39, of Landover, MD, continued to resist and began choking K9 Bane. Thanks to the quick actions of deputies on the scene, Bane was rescued from Spriggs and was not injured.

Spriggs was taken into custody and taken to Fauquier Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is charged with possession of stolen goods, obstruction of justice, eluding, driving without a license (second offense), driving under the influence of drugs, and attempt to maim/kill a law enforcement animal. He was held at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center. A bond hearing will be held when he is sober.
