Latah County, ID – A couple who lives just three miles from the deadliest murder incident in recent memory in Moscow, Idaho, has expressed concern over a possible connection to their own dog’s death in late October. According to multiple sources, Pam and Jim Colbert said that their miniature Australian shepherd, Buddy, was found “filleted” on October 21. The Colberts said that a deputy with the Latah County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the dog was not skinned by an animal…it was the deputy’s belief that it was the handiwork of a human.

But the local authorities have already stated that Buddy’s death is not connected to the murder of the University of Idaho students fatally stabbed in Moscow.

As reported by Fox News, Colbert said that a sheriff’s office supervisor told her, “This hasn’t been done by an animal. This was a human that did this.” He added, “it was obviously done with a knife.” But the Moscow Police have quickly shot down the fear that the dog’s death is tied to the murders of Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21.

As reported by the NY Post, the Moscow Police have a different opinion about Buddy’s death, stating:

“Detectives are also aware of a Moscow Police incident of the report of deceased animals left on a resident’s property,” the department said. “This was determined to be wildlife activity and unrelated to the incident.”

Friends, family, and the local community have been frustrated by the lack of information about the brutal murders of the four college students. To date, there are no suspects, no murder weapon, and no known motive. The authorities were quick to state that it was a “targeted” attack, but they have since admitted that there is reason for area residents to remain vigilant, given the brutality of the murders. The authorities believe the students were sleeping when someone came into the home and killed them. There were other people in the home at the time who were unharmed; they have said that they did not hear anything.
