On Monday, a body was found in the water in the area that was being searched for a California man whose boat washed ashore earlier this month. On March 12, Bill Austin’s catamaran, The Cat, was found on a beach north of Nopolos – on board were all of his personal belongings and his dog. Family, friends, and local officials had been conducting an extensive search of the area, and yesterday, a body was pulled from the water.
According to Mas Noticias BCS, officials have not confirmed the identity, but they are hopeful that it is the missing 60-year-old sailor.
Austin had left Guaymas for La Paz and was last seen in Punta San Basilio on the Wednesday before his vessel was discovered onshore. Austin had been in Cabo San Lucas in the fall for a sailboat cruisers rally, and he decided to extend his stay in the area. Friends and family described him as an experienced sailor and they were hopeful that he had made his way to one of the many islands in the area where he disappeared.
His dog was alive and well when the boat washed ashore. No word at this time who is caring for her.
