Man charged for allegedly cutting off puppy’s tail

A Pennsylvania man is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly cutting off his puppy’s tail. According to multiple sources, Pennsylvania State Police responded to the 2800 block of Route 220 in Ulster after receiving a report that a man was swinging a puppy in circles over his head.

At the residence, the authorities found 50-year-old Richard Armitage, and a puppy with wounds to his tail.

The police determined that the puppy, a pit bull named Ryder, was missing his tail because Armitage used a knife to chop it off. The man admitted to cutting off his pup’s tail and giving Ryder Tylenol for pain.

The injured pup was transported to the Bradford County Humane Society – staff stated that Ryder was covered in fleas and needed surgery to repair the damage from Armitage’s at-home attempt to remove his tail, reports My Twin Tiers.

Staff at the shelter describe the pup as “very snuggly and happy,” despite the pain he has endured. Armitage is facing animal cruelty charges and more charges are expected.
