Days ago, a skeletal horse was rescued from a stall behind a gas station in Houston, Texas. The horse is so thin that it seems implausible that she is still standing. On August 21, the Houston SPCA posted images of the emaciated horse, writing:

Our investigators have rescued this emaciated horse with badly overgrown hooves from a stall behind a gas station. After no medical attention and severe neglect, we’ll be making sure this animal gets the care they need 💙

Judging by the images, it would appear that someone stopped caring for this horse a long time ago. Given the horse’s extreme state of emaciation, it is a miracle that she is even able to stand.

The animal welfare agency has not provided any details about the horse’s owner. They only ask that people in the area reach out to them when/if they suspect that an animal is being neglected or abuse, writing:

Call 713-869-7722 to report cruelty, or file a report on our website. https://bit.ly/31iEtcM

There has not been an update on the horse’s condition since the initial August 21 posting. Find the Houston SPCA on Facebook at this link.

Established in 1924, the Houston SPCA’s Campus For All Animals serves as the leading animal protection and rescue organizations in the country with the ability to care for the broadest range of animal species, types of abuse and injury, and magnitude of large-scale, multiple-animal cases – all in one location. They provide rescue and care for companion animals, horses and farm animals, and exotics while Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center of Texas receives over 11,000 wild animals comprising over 360 species each year.
