Environmentalists and animal lovers have expressed outrage after viewing a video showing an endangered manatee being dragged with a rope over dirt streets in Nigeria. On February 22, Blue Planet Society Tweeted the distressing video, writing:

The manatee is clearly terrified and tries desperately to get away from its captors, but the struggles are to no avail as the rope is securely bound around the frightened sea-cow’s tail.

My attention has been drawn to a very distressing & distasteful video of a captured manatee in the Niger Delta Region being dragged on bare ground to a cruel fate by some ill informed/uninformed youth. I strongly condemn this act ….
It is unclear if the people involved will face any repercussions for their actions.
