A cold, dehydrated and malnourished dog was found abandoned in a trash bag left on Forest Avenue in Willow Springs, Illinois. The pit bull, dubbed Vinny, was discovered before dying inside of the plastic garbage bag that was cast aside like an unwanted inanimate object.
On February 20, the South Suburban Humane Society recounted the sad tale to Facebook followers, writing:
On Monday, Cook County Animal Control responded to a horrific scene in Willow Springs. Vinny was in a garbage bag that had been tied and he was left for dead along the side of a road. Thankfully the responding officer acted quickly and rushed him to Countryside Veterinary Center where they brought his body temperature up and got him fluids. If he had been there much longer, he would be dead.
Vinny has to learn to trust humans again, and overcome his physical ailments. Fortunately he is receiving the physical and emotional support that he needs to recovery. On Saturday, the animal shelter provided a heartwarming update, writing:
We know you all want a Vinny update and we’re happy to share! He’s started taking cookies offered to him, giving us tentative tail wags, and most of all, allowing some pets!! We are so committed to him and we know you are too! So keep loving him, keep praying for him and sending him love and energy, and keep spreading the word of fostering, adopting, volunteering and donating at your local animal shelter ❤️❤️
